The Flyers are Two Wins Away from the Stanley Cup!
The city of Philadelphia is two wins away from another championship and it couldn't feel any sweeter.
The Flyers finished a perfect Friday in Philly sports beating the Chicago Blackhawks 5-3 in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Flyers have successfully climbed out of an 0-2 hole to tie the series up and force a Game 6 in the orange zone, better known as the Wachovia Center.
Game 4 was the first in the Stanley Cup Finals to be decided by two goals, but the cushion wasn't applied until late in the third when the Blackhawks emptied their net to get a man advantage.
Jeff Carter scored the empty-netter and iced the cake for the Fly-guys to head back to Chi-town for Game 5 with the series tied at two apiece.
The Flyers struck early and often in Game 4. Mike Richards, Matt Carle and Claude Giroux all scored in the first period which provided breathing room neither team has had in this tightly contested series.
Philadelphia used that early lead to their advantage as they were able to keep the Blackhawks at arms length the entire night. Chicago pulled to within one goal in the third period when Brian Campbell sounded the horn with 4:10 left in the game.
And then we saw the calling card of this Philadelphia team, great defense when the moment calls for it. This team has answered the bell this entire postseason and now it has them just two wins away from Stanley Cup glory.
The Flyers are now 8-1 at home in the postseason and for the first time in Stanley Cup Finals history, the home team has won all four games to start the series.
Flyers goaltender Michael Leighton was solid last night for Philadelphia, stopping 26 of the first 27 shots he saw and finished the game with 31 saves.
Game 5 will be in the United Center on Sunday night as this series has become a best-of-three, and the NHL is reaping the benefits this has arguably been the most successful Stanley Cup Finals series ever....at least through 4 games.
